Candlestick Tower Sunrise

White Rim Road, Canyonlands National Park, Utah

The morning after our night at Candlestick camp. We'd mapped the horizon from camp with elevation data before the trip, so we knew the sun wouldn't rise in the gap between the La Sal peaks and that first light would reach the top of Candlestick Tower almost half an hour after sunrise. The terrain held, but the monsoon had arrived: we got about three minutes of color behind the tower before the clouds closed in, and this is from those three minutes.
