Licensing

Every photograph on this site was made by us, and Dust & Starlight LLC holds the copyright. Buying a print and licensing an image are two different things. This page says where the line is and how to ask.

What a print includes

A print purchase gets you the physical print. You're welcome to hang it, photograph your room with it, and resell the print itself. It doesn't include the right to reproduce the image in any other form. The terms of sale say the same.

Sharing a photo of your print, or of your room with it, on your own social media or in a review needs nothing more. Credit is appreciated: “Photo: Dust & Starlight”. Using it to promote a business is a commercial use, below.

What needs a license

Reproducing a photograph in any form other than the print you bought needs a license. For example:

If you aren't sure whether your use needs a license, ask.

What a license covers

Unless we agree otherwise in writing, a license is:

We send the image as a file sized for the use you describe.

How to ask

Tell us which image and what you plan to do with it, as much of this as you know:

The “Ask us” link under the prints on each photo page fills in the photograph for you, or you can write to us and name it. You'll hear back from one of us within a day or two.

Price

Licensing is priced on request. A fee depends on the image and on the use: the media, the size and placement, the region, the length of time and any exclusivity. We quote it once we know them.

Credit

A licensed photograph is credited “Photo: Dust & Starlight” wherever it is published, next to the image or in the credits, unless we agree something else in writing.
