The end of our first day in Glacier. After the Trail of the Cedars and Avalanche Lake, we stayed at the southwest end of Lake McDonald until dark, and the lake held still enough to double the stars and the far shore. The line of light at the far end is a car on the one road along the lake, headed for the lodge.

The sky that night
Night of May 24–25, 2025 · 10:25 pm by the camera's clock
- Moon
- Waning crescent, 6% lit · 27.4 days old
- Milky Way
- Peak core season. The galactic core is up for a good part of the night.
Worked out from the capture time, not the place: the moon’s phase is the same everywhere on Earth at a given moment.
